Planning cashback around the big sale weeks
Sale season is when cashback rates move most, and when the mistakes are most expensive. A short plan for Black Friday and the winter sales.
Cashback rates are not fixed. Shops raise them when they want volume, which is exactly when you were going to buy anyway. A little planning around those weeks is worth more than months of small purchases.
Decide what you want before the prices move
The oldest advice about sales is still the only one that matters: write the list first. A raised cashback rate on something you did not need is a rounding error on a mistake.
Check the rate on the day, not the week before
Rates during sale periods change quickly, sometimes daily. The number that counts is the one shown when you open the shop. That is the rate attached to your click.
Expect slower confirmation
Reporting takes longer during peak weeks, and return windows are often extended into January. Both mean your money sits pending longer than usual. Plan the payout, not just the purchase.
The mistakes that cost most in these weeks
- Chasing a voucher code found elsewhere, which reassigns the sale away from your cashback.
- Filling a basket days early and checking out from the browser instead of through the app.
- Buying gift cards, which are excluded almost everywhere.
- Ordering multiple sizes intending to return some. Returns take the cashback with them.
